Holiday Recap and Starting 2017 Off Right

Ok ladies, we survived the holidays. We shopped ’til we dropped, wrapped all the gifts, got the kids in their holiday outfits and successfully played Santa.

A little review of my personal holiday crazy: I went to Walmart at 6:30 am on a workday to get in line for a Hatchimal for my seven year old after the Indy Star released an article saying my local store was maybe getting a shipment. The good news was that I DID get a Hatchimal for regular price! But…definitely crazy. We ran out of tape on Christmas eve, so a lot of my gifts to family had washi tape with birthday balloons. Note to self: buy extra tape next year. I failed to notice that the adorable Christmas outfit I bought for my 5-month old son- complete with a bow tie- was basically going to cut off his air supply when I buttoned the top button. Let’s just say he let me know he was NOT happy about it! But what could I do at that point? We had minutes left before we had to leave the house and I didn’t have a backup holiday outfit for him. So he wore the outfit, even though there’s no evidence because I forgot to take even ONE picture of him in his adorable getup. And don’t get me started on Santa gifts: the Barbie dream house we thought would take one hour to put together took four hours and didn’t get finished until 4:45 am. Sigh.

I could go on and on about the craziness of the holidays, and I’m sure every one of you reading have your own version of winter holiday crazy. So, I’m not going to lie – I’m GLAD IT’S DONE. There, I said it. My resting heart rate can return to normal and I can stop watching our checking account balance plummet to dangerous levels.

So say it with me ladies – January is OUR time. Let’s make it about us, ok? The kids had their time. I mean, hello, Elf on the Shelf, Santa and gifts galore. Our partners just don’t stress about the season like we do. Were they out buying teacher gifts the last day before the kids got out of school? If I had to guess, probably not-  it was you buying those last minute gifts.

So let’s get back to basics this month. Here are some ideas:

  • Go to bed early and get enough rest
  • Get your diet back on track: eat vegetables and fruits and drink plenty of water
  • Take a yoga class or start your gym routine
  • Meditate for at least ten minutes a day – the Headspace app is my favorite
  • Take a long bubble bath
  • Read a good book
  • Reach out to family and friends for support often

Take care of you. I know I plan to. Happy New Year ladies. We deserve a GREAT 2017!
