November Guide to Family Events in and around Indianapolis

Fall is in full effect and the holidays are right around the corner! Here is our November round up of our favorite family events right here in Indianapolis and surrounding areas! 

November 2

Family Night – Carmel – Urban Chalkboard – 5 p.m.

Art, games, activities, $1 pizza by the slice and plenty of family fun await you at Family Night at the Urban Chalkboard!

November 2 

Family Night – Indianapolis – Children’s Museum – 4 p.m.

Come enjoy the wonders and exhibits of the Children’s Museum from 4-8 p.m. at the discounted rate of just $5 per person! Free parking.

November 3

Peppa Pig Live – Old National Centre – 6 p.m.

Surprise! Peppa Pig, George and their friends are back in a brand new live stage show, Peppa Pig’s Surprise.

November 4 

Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K and Kids Run – Indianapolis – Indiana State Capitol – 8 a.m.

One of the top 20 largest marathons in the U.S.! Along with a half marathon, 5K, and kids fun run, race weekend is full of events for the entire family. The Monumental Health and Fitness Expo at the Indiana Convention Center kicks off the event with two days of talented expo speakers, vendors, and opportunities to show your monumental spirit.

November 11

Great Indy Pet Expo – Indiana State Fairgrounds – 10 a.m.

The Great Indy Pet Expo welcomes anyone who loves animals and pets. Whether you’re a current pet owner or just thinking about bringing a companion animal into your home, the Great Indy Pet Expo is for you. It’s a great event for family entertainment, and with the largest pet-related trade show in the state, it’s a must for your holiday shopping list!
Cost: $9; $6 seniors; $4 (6-12); Free for 5 and under

November 12

Classical Concerts at Central – Indianapolis – Central Library – 2 p.m.

Adults and families are invited to experience the dynamic world of chamber music with members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. This program will be held in Central Library’s Clowes Auditorium.

November 18 – December 24

A Christmas Carol – Indianapolis – Indiana Repertory Theatre – 1 p.m. 

Join Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and three lively ghosts on a dark, snowy journey that leads to a bright new day of joy, hope and renewal. Banish your bah humbugs, and celebrate the holiday season with Indy’s favorite family tradition.

Cost: $25 and up

November 18

Autumn Art Fair – Indianapolis – Garfield Park Conservatory and Gardens – 10 a.m.

Come to the Garfield Park Arts Center to browse and shop for family-friendly, handcrafted, and affordable art. Over forty artists from Indianapolis and surrounding areas will be selling their wares–just in time for the holidays!

November 18

Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure – Indianapolis – Eiteljorg Museum – 10 a.m.

One of Indianapolis’ most popular family holiday traditions returns. Be one of the first to experience the Eiteljorg’s magical holiday model train exhibit Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure. Journey through a locomotive wonderland as trains wind past icons of Indianapolis and the American West.

November 21

Reynolds Christmas Lights Display – Fishers – Reynolds Farm Equipment

Check out the FREE annual Christmas lights display held at the Fishers store location! An annual treat of amazing light displays for kids and adults alike.

November 24

Santa’s Big Arrival – Indianapolis – Children’s Museum – 10 a.m.

Watch Santa arrive at The Children’s Museum in a 2-seater IndyCar driven by Ed Carpenter, driver and owner of the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Indy car. Come inside and participate in a family-fun sing-along, be the first to explore Jolly Days exhibit and take your picture with Santa.

November 24

Christmas at the Zoo – Indianapolis Zoo – 5 p.m.

It will be an exciting year at Christmas at the Zoo presented by and Donatos and Teachers Cre​dit Union with an all-new, enchanted Santa’s Village under the Bicentennial Pavilion. Magical scenes of wonder and light will fill Santa’s Village where you can decorate delectable cookies in Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, visit with Santa in his charming study and see Santa’s reindeer in his barn.

November 24

Starbase Indy – Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel 

Calling all Trekkies, science enthusiasts, geeky shoppers, and people looking for a good time on Thanksgiving weekend! Join us in celebrating Star Trek, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through entertainment, lectures, and hands-on activities while you get a head start on your holiday shopping in our vendor hall.

November 24

Circle of Lights – Indianapolis – Monument Circle – 6 p.m.

For 55 years, thousands and thousands of spectators have come for the hugely popular ceremonial lighting and kickoff for the holiday season. Festivities begin at 6, and the lighting will take place at 7:55, followed by fireworks.

November 24 – January 7

Celebration Crossing Opening Day – Indiana State Museum – 10 a.m. 

This year’s Celebration Crossing comes alive with holiday merriment from the sounds of bands, bell and vocal choirs and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will entertain visitors in their cozy home through Dec. 24. Early risers may join Mrs. Claus, Raggedy Ann and Santa’s Elves for breakfast and late sleepers may join Santa for supper. Children of all ages may ride on the Santa Claus Express, make crafts to take home and take advantage of a playscape for pre-school and primary elementary aged children in Santa’s Playground.

November 24

A Beef & Boards Christmas – Indianapolis – 9301 Michigan Road

Beef & Boards celebrates in style with its annual crowd pleaser. A glittering array of music and dance numbers, presented in a variety show format, create the perfect holiday tradition.

November 25

A Year with Frog and Toad – Carmel – Studio Theater at Center for Performing Arts – 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. 

Limited Engagement! True to the heart of the book series, A Year with Frog and Toad is a story of a friendship that endures four fun-filled seasons. It bubbles with beautiful melody and wit, making it an inventive, exuberant and enchanting musical for ages 4 to 104!

November 28

A Christmas Story, The Musical – Indianapolis – Old National Centre

A Christmas Story, The Musical is the hilarious account of Ralphie’s desperate quest to ensure that this most perfect of gifts ends up under his tree this Christmas.
